Chandra Forsythe, Co-Founder
Chandra Forsythe is one of the co-founders of Best Friends Animal Society and the creator of the Bunny House.
In the earliest days of the Sanctuary, while others were mainly taking care of dogs and cats, Chandra helped co-founder Faith Maloney care for the growing population of “other animals” — rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, turkeys, and even a sheep.
Eventually, she would oversee the construction of Bunny House’s first incarnation: Rabbit Redford’s Retreat.
Chandra has worn many hats. For years, she managed Best Friends’ sponsorship program, which paired individual animals at the Sanctuary with their fans who wished to sponsor them. The sponsors received personal letters about their animals’ adventures at the Sanctuary. And when the program became so popular that sponsors began asking whether they could send gifts to their sponsored pets, Chandra took charge of receiving presents and distributing them to the animals.
Other jobs have included opening a shipping department for the Sanctuary, creating and managing wish lists for the animals on Amazon and elsewhere, and much more.
Since her well-earned retirement, Chandra has continued to help by caring for recuperating animals and volunteering her time regularly at the Sanctuary.
