From English Springer Rescue America, Inc.
English Springer Rescue America (ESRA) is a national all volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of English Springer Spaniels. Founded in 1999 ESRA is a lifeline for Springers giving them a second chance at life. ESRA provides care for abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs, partnering with 250 humane societies/shelters/animal control facilities in 37 states. ESRA rescues Springers from our community partners, or from owners unable to care for them. ESRA relies entirely on donations and 90% of our expenses are for the care of dogs.
Upon intake, every Springer undergoes an immediate veterinary evaluation, receives necessary vaccinations and needed treatment. All our Springers are microchipped and spayed before adoption. In 2024, 605 Springers were rescued and 486 adoptions took place due to the dedication of our 2,000 volunteers and 1,300 foster homes.
Senior Springers (7+ yr) often require extra medical attention to manage issues such as dental disease, chronic ear infections, and mammary tumors. In 2024 medical care for 44 Senior Springers cost $110,817. The number of seniors rescued by ESRA continues to increase not just because of an owner's economic constraints or lifestyle changes, but also when an elderly owner cannot physically care for their Springer.
There is no fee to be an ESRA member. New volunteers are always welcome. They can assist with screening, transporting and/or fostering our Springers as well as other supportive roles. For more information visit our website at www.springerrescue.org.
