Karen is no stranger to caring for animals. In fact, it isn't uncommon to find that her Texas living room is home to a handful of foster cats. She bottle-feeds newborn kittens, builds scratching posts for them to play on, and keeps them happy and healthy as they wait to find their forever homes.

Karen's commitment to animal welfare doesn't stop there, though. A member of Best Friends for more than 15 years, Karen has decided to make her love for animals a lifetime legacy. "I started thinking, cats and dogs can't speak for themselves," she said. "Someone has to speak for them. So I made Best Friends my beneficiary."
