The magic of Angel Canyon

For those who have visited the magical place called Angel Canyon, home of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, we hope this tribute from Best Friends co-founder Cyrus Mejia reminds you of your own connection to this beautiful land.

And to those who have yet to experience the magic, we hope you can visit soon.

Join us for a special blessing on September 28

Our monthly blessing ceremonies are a wonderful way to remember and celebrate special pets who are gone from our lives but not from our hearts.

We are holding an extra-special blessing on September 28 at 4 p.m. MT to commemorate pet memorial month. Dr. Katie Lawlor, a clinical psychologist specializing in grief, loss, and the human-animal bond will speak.

You can tune in to Instagram at 4 p.m. MT to watch the ceremony live. Make sure to RSVP on the special blessing event page to get reminders about the blessing livestream.

When you attend the blessing in person at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, you'll have the opportunity to honor pets by lighting a candle in their memory. To attend, simply show up to Angels Rest at 4 p.m. MT on September 28, no registration is required.

Ways to remember your pet

It’s so hard to say goodbye to our faithful animal companions, but when you’re ready, there are a number of ways you can consider honoring the memory of your special pet.

Angels Rest

Here at Angels Rest, hundreds of wind chimes ring in remembrance of beloved pets, and memorial markers pay tribute to the love we hold for our dogs, cats and other companions.

If you’d like to remember your pet, or the pet of a loved one, these memorials can be sent to you or placed at our Sanctuary – one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Making art in memory of your pet

Here at Best Friends, we have a long-held tradition of painting memorial stones in honor of animals who have passed.

The memorial stones are then placed in our special places of remembrance in Angel Canyon at our animal sanctuary.

You can follow along to create a beautiful memorial stone of your own to place in a garden, on a bookshelf, or maybe under your pet's favorite tree. We hope you find some comfort in this practice and cherish your creation for years to come.
