‘Hamilton’ parody purrspective from a cat

Paytrix came to Best Friends with an old fracture in his pelvis, but he never let it get him down – he owns the swagger it puts in his step. He’s a year-round trick-or-treater sauntering door to door at Cat World looking for treats, with a human in tow on a harness and leash. His friends and fans are happy to indulge him. Everyone knows his name.

Despite his fame, Paytrix is a humble cat who loves a good time. He’ll try on fun costumes, roll in the sand until his white fur turns pink, and he’s always at the door to greet visitors with his tongue sticking out of his mouth. There’s no such word as “shy” in his vocabulary. Life is meant to be lived, and he lives it to its fullest.

Sing along with Paytrix, the musical about how a cat found his way to the top with resilience and persistence. His story is inspired by the founding father, Benton, from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Music composition and lyrics inspired by Hamilton: An American Musical

Verse One
How does a stray cat, just another male cat
With a face that’s tired and somewhat less admired,
With a broken pelvis, makes me walk like Elvis?
But what else can say, I’m feeling kind of helpless.

Verse Two
Saved by a rescue, gotta say God bless you
To the folks in Texas, where they kept us
And protected us and loved us every single day.
But then we had to be on our way.

Verse Three
Long story short, got myself to a transport
To a Sanctuary that protects the wary.
It's Best Friends ... transcends ... that which came before,
Left me with a love that would keep me coming back for more.

Verse Four
Best Friends Cat World, warm laps long naps,
There’s a ball of yarn, should I chase it? Purrrhaps.
Living in the first house, Benton’s house, built to the hilt,
Which is for felines, which I find just divine.

Verse Five
Benton was the founding father, led the charter
For cats with disabilities who need extra facilities,
Who look at personality and not as kitten casualty
And knows when adoption is not yet an option.

Chorus
Best Friends Sanctuary, I’m loved at Best Friends Sanctuary.
And I feel my life has just begun ... and I can’t wait, I can’t wait.

Verse Six
Benton ruled the house with a strong club paw,
Said “always put your best foot forward” now that’s law,
Better to try harder, work the system, just listen.
Got a disability? You’re far from liability.

Verse Seven
My name is Paytrix, watch I can play tricks
Learned from founding fathers. I’ve always tried harder
To see what’s the angle, what’s my analysis,
Always be cute, be fun, that’s my catalysis.

Verse Eight
My favorite trick is trick or treat,
You can see me coming from across the street,
It goes knock-knock, who’s there, hey chicks, it’s Paytrix.
Can I get another treat? I promise I will not retreat.

Chorus
Best Friends Sanctuary, I’m loved at Best Friends Sanctuary.
And I feel my life has just begun ... and I can’t wait, I can’t wait.

Verse Nine
Be polite, not uptight, play it light, keep it right.
If they give you three treats or four, always ask for more.
See this is the key to how we’ll all see victory,
This is how we live at Best Friends Sanctuary.

Verse Ten
We all learned from Benton, he gave us the momentum
To live a new life one that’s free from all the strife.
Benton was a friend, a teacher, and above all that
He told us at Best Friends you can be a new cat.

Chorus
Best Friends Sanctuary, I’m loved at Best Friends Sanctuary.
And I feel my life has just begun ... and I can’t wait, I can’t wait.
Best Friends Sanctuary, I’m loved at Best Friends Sanctuary.
And I feel my life has just begun ... and I can’t wait, I can’t wait.
