Sparking joy, saving kittens
Recently, the team at Best Friends in Atlanta rolled up its collective sleeves and cleared out space so that it will be able to save hundreds of kittens this spring and summer. Taking a cue from decluttering guru Marie Kondo (under the watchful eye of the center’s own Meowie Kondo), the team tossed out anything that wasn’t being used or didn’t spark joy. Some of the dogs even pitched in to help.
Clearing out the clutter did more than spark joy at the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Atlanta. With shelters across the county, including those in Atlanta, struggling each year to save the thousands of kittens that come through the doors during kitten season, the newly created space will help save lives.
The new room, which is for kittens ready to be adopted, makes it possible to save more neonatal kittens from area shelters. “Now we can take more neonatal kittens into our foster program and then move them quickly into the adoption room,” says Katie Muldoon, executive director for Best Friends in Atlanta.
It’s all about giving some of Atlanta’s youngest homeless pets the chance they deserve to experience the ultimate joy — a home of their own.

Best Friends in Atlanta works collaboratively with area shelters, animal welfare organizations and individuals to save the lives of pets in shelters in the region.
