We can’t help but love man’s (and woman’s) best friend. And that love is a two-way street. While we show that love every day in many ways, it’s not quite as easy for our canine companions. So for National Dog Day, the pups at Best Friends, including a shepherd, basset hound, Chihuahua, dachshund, greyhound, shar-pei, pit bull terriers and even puppies share their thanks though some adorable images.

I’m thankful for fresh air, full of marvelous smells.

I’m thankful for friends to roughhouse with.

I’m thankful for a personal pool to cool off in.

I’m thankful someone cares about me, even if that means taking a bath.

I’m thankful for being rescued from a puppy mill.

I’m thankful for going on a hike — off leash.

I’m thankful for getting to go on a sleepover.

I’m thankful for car rides, especially with the window cracked open.

I’m thankful that I don’t need to race any more.

I’m thankful for a full belly.

I’m thankful for my toy ball.

I’m thankful for having the biggest ball!

I’m thankful I won’t have any more litters of puppies because I’ve been spayed.

I’m thankful for warm blankets.

I’m thankful for a soft bed to sleep on.

I’m thankful for belly rubs.

I’m thankful for yummy treats.

I’m thankful for wide open spaces for running.

I’m thankful for being adopted.
