Best Friends Super Adoption returns to Salt Lake City August 1 and 2 for the first time since 2019. Hosted by national nonprofit, Best Friends Animal Society, the two-day adoption event will bring more than 500 adorable, adoptable dogs and cats to the Mountain America Expo Center.

This year’s event will feature 18 animal shelters and rescue groups coming together to help find loving homes for pets in need. All adoption fees at the event will be under $150.

“We're thrilled to be bringing Super Adoption back to Best Friends Animal Society’s home state of Utah to help even more dogs and cats find the loving homes they deserve,” said Amy Kohlbecker, Executive Director, Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Salt Lake City “Large scale events like Best Friends Super Adoption bring together pets from various animal shelters and rescue groups to help even more dogs, cats, and people connect with their new best friend. Even if you’re not currently looking to bring home a new pet, we encourage Utahns to come see what the buzz is all about and learn how they can play a role in helping Utah achieve no-kill.”

Data from Best Friends shows that 56 of Utah’s 59 animal shelters are currently no-kill*. If just one in every 1,000 Utahns chose to adopt rather than buy their next pet from a pet store or breeder, we would end the unnecessary killing of dogs and cats in Utah shelters.

“One of the most powerful ways to save more pets lives and help the Beehive state become no-kill is adopting a pet,” said Holly Sizemore, Chief Mission Officer, Best Friends Animal Society. “An estimated 7 million households across the country will add a pet to their family this year. If just 6% more of those families chose to adopt rather than purchase a pet, we would end the unnecessary killing of pets in America’s shelters."

In addition to meeting adoptable dogs and cats, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy family-friendly activities including a photo booth, giveaways, exhibitor booths, and more.

Best Friends Super Adoption in Salt Lake City will take place on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Mountain America Expo Center (9575 S. State St., Sandy, UT).

*No-kill is defined by a 90% save rate for animals entering a shelter and is a meaningful and common-sense benchmark for measuring lifesaving progress. Typically, the number of pets who are suffering from irreparable medical or behavioral issues that compromise their quality of life and prevent them from being rehomed is not more than 10% of all dogs and cats entering shelters. For any community to be no-kill, all stakeholders in that community must work together to achieve and sustain that common goal while prioritizing community safety and good quality of life for pets as guiding no-kill principles. This means cooperation among animal shelters, animal rescue groups, government agencies, community members and other stakeholders, all committed to best practices and protocols.
