Tyson Horn is a co-founder of Best Friends and has sometimes been known as “the dog whisperer.”

Two years after Best Friends opened its (at that time) small sanctuary in the red rocks of Utah, Tyson moved from his home in Texas to become a volunteer.

At first, Tyson, like so many others, helped with the construction of the buildings. But soon, it was clear what Tyson’s real calling was: He was a wizard with difficult dogs. He may have been wearing a cowboy hat and sunglasses — two things you should never have on when approaching a dog who’s nervous or reactive — but it didn’t matter. He had (and has) a special gift for handling and caring for dogs with behavior issues, particularly those who show aggression toward people.

From the early days of the Sanctuary until his retirement and then continuing as a volunteer, Tyson has been dedicated to helping troubled dogs overcome their fears and succeed in life.
