Joe Angelo
Chief People and Culture Officer
Joe Angelo is a human resources executive with experience in some of the largest governmental agencies in the country. He served as Human Resource Services Director for San Antonio, TX from 2012 - 2014, then for San Jose, CA from 2014-2017. In 2017 he became the Human Resource Services Director for Alameda County, CA. Joe holds dual undergraduate degrees from Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania. He additionally holds dual graduate degrees from the University of Miami and Harvard.
Joe first came in contact with Best Friends Animal Society when he was the head of the Office of Innovation & Reform for the City of San Antonio. It was in that capacity that in 2011 Joe was tapped to revamp the animal shelter to accelerate lifesaving to make San Antonio a no-kill community. BFAS stepped forward as a partner. San Antonio rapidly moved to be a prime example in lifesaving nationally. In 2012 Joe was a guest speaker at Best Friends National Conference on "The Future of the No-Kill Movement: Public/Private Partnerships".
Prior to joining Best Friends in this role, Joe served on the Best Friends Board of Directors.
Joe resides in the Bay Area of California, and he enjoys traveling, hiking, cycling, running, and reading.
