More Than 25 Shelter and Rescues will Come to NWA for Best Friends Animal Society’s Super Adoption Weekend

May 28, 2024 – For the first time, Best Friends Animal Society’s “Super Adoption” event will happen in Northwest Arkansas. After the Best Friends Pet Resource Center found homes for more than 2,000 animals in its first year open, the organization now looks to save even more lives and rally community support through this two-day event.

The adoption extravaganza is happening June 14 and 15, with dogs and cats from organizations across the greater Arkansas area embarking on NWA for a collaborative community adoption event hoping to find loving homes of their own.

“Super Adoptions are a great way to rally community support by uniting animal lovers with animal welfare organizations from across Arkansas and beyond to help homeless pets find their loving homes,” said Michelle Logan, Executive Director, Best Friends Animal Society. “Best Friends Super Adoption events started 25 years ago in Los Angeles and we’re excited for Arkansans to experience this unique adoption event firsthand.”

Taking place at the Best Friends Pet Resource Center, located at 1312 Melissa Drive in Bentonville, the large-scale adoption event will host 300+ pets looking for loving homes to call their own from more than 25 shelter and rescue groups. The goal is to get more than 50% of pets in attendance adopted throughout the weekend.

NWA Super Adoption is happening at a critical time in animal welfare. Recent data from Best Friends shows that nationally, 7 million people are looking to bring home a new pet in 2024, and if just 6% of them chose to adopt we could reach no-kill.

“Every 90 seconds, a dog or cat is killed in a shelter simply because they don’t have a place to call home. Not only will this event help more dogs and cats find homes, but we have the opportunity to bring together pets from shelters, rescue groups, and Best Friends for a weekend of lifesaving,” said Logan.

Adoptions typically includes spay or neuter, vaccination, and micro-chip, which offers a very cost-effective way to bring home a pet.
