Protect community cats in Hawaiʻi County
HI residents: Urge Hawaiʻi County leaders to add amendment back to Bill 51
Feeding bans are ineffective and counterproductive to reducing unowned cat populations.
The Hawaiʻi County Council recently passed Bill 51 despite overwhelming opposition, which will fine good Samaritans up to $500 for feeding unowned cats. They passed this bill without the amendment that would have created a partnership with non-profit organizations to implement a trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) program.
TAKE ACTION: Send a message to Hawai‘i County leaders urging them to reconsider their decision to pass Bill 51 without the amended language, and ask Mayor Kimo Alameda to VETO Bill 51. Ask them to support humane and evidence-based cat management methods like trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR).
