Sometimes, the best gift you can give to pets in need is your time. So we’re thrilled that you’re interested in volunteering with the animals at Best Friends Animal Society in Atlanta. We rely on dedicated volunteers to help Save Them All.

How to sign up to volunteer with animals

Volunteers begin with Best Friends in Atlanta by completing their online application. This is followed by doing a virtual volunteer orientation and completing a first day of training.

  1. Visit volunteers.bestfriends.org
  2. Select "Start Volunteering" and be sure to check off the path for Atlanta.
  3. Follow the steps to fully activate your volunteer account.
  4. You will receive an automated email after profile completion with details about current volunteer opportunities. 
    Once your profile is complete, you can sign into our volunteer website and click the "opportunities" tab to see available volunteer shifts or projects.

Transport program volunteer opportunities

Best Friends Animal Society in Atlanta works collaboratively with Lifeline Animal Project, other shelters across Georgia and the Southeast, and Polk County Animal Control to save the lives of homeless pets by transporting them to rescue groups in the Northeast to increase their chances of adoption. 

We're always in need of drivers, a short-term fosters, or volunteers to assist with the daily care and enrichment of these pets before they get on the road to their forever home! Learn more about being a Transport Volunteer.

Youth opportunities for volunteering

Volunteering with Best Friends in Atlanta can also be a unique opportunity for the pet lover in your family. We accept individuals aged 12-17 to volunteer with animals if they have a signed waiver by their guardian. (Volunteers ages 12-15 must have a guardian with them at all times.)

Community service hours

Best Friends in Atlanta is happy to accommodate individuals seeking to complete court-ordered community service hours. Individuals who have misdemeanor charges, including but not limited to, traffic offenses, DUIs, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana are accepted. Community service volunteers must be approved by the Volunteer Coordinator prior to volunteering.
