The first weekend in June turned out to be pretty wonderful for hundreds of homeless pets in New York City. That’s when hundreds of dogs, cats (and even rabbits) found homes at the Best Friends Super Adoption, presented by BOBS from Skechers (with additional sponsorship from Petco Foundation and Instinct by Nature’s Variety), June 2-4 at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
It was clear from the long line of people waiting on Friday for the doors to open that it was going to be a very special weekend for New York’s pets. That weekend, several thousand people attended ― to either find their perfect companion or to simply share in the joy of the event. And dogs and cats from Best Friends in New York and No More Homeless Pets Network partners found families ready to welcome them home.
Each and every adoption is special, and it was certainly a very special moment when Mewford, a blind kitty from Best Friends, found himself leaving in the arms of his new family. And when a dog named Buddy Sierra went home with a foster family at the young age of 16 and a half, there were a whole lot of cheers ― and maybe a few happy tears, too.
Everywhere you turned at the super adoption, there was a great moment just waiting to be captured. Check out some of our favorite photos from the event, taken by a team of amazing photographers, including Best Friends photographer Stacey Axelrod. If you couldn’t be there, these are the next best thing.
