Happy National Feral Cat Day!

Each year on October 16, we celebrate National Feral Cat Day. The day was started in 2001 by our friends at Alley Cat Allies as a way to raise awareness about community cats. While every day is feral cat day at Best Friends, we’re excited about this day each year because it’s an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of trap/neuter/return (TNR), the only humane option for stabilizing and reducing the outdoor cat population.

This year’s National Feral Cat Day is a particularly special one for us, because we are proud to launch the Community Cat Programs Toolkit. The toolkit is an instructional guide based on our community cat program work over the past several years. The programs are comprehensive, targeted spay/neuter model programs and the associated toolkit is 23 chapters long, which is perhaps a sign of just how thorough the programs are.

We know from experience after running these programs in cities across the country that when implemented correctly, they save thousands of lives. If you are interested in how your community can deploy a community cat program, take a look at this toolkit today.
