Best Friends tops Harris Brand of the Year poll again

For the second year running, Best Friends Animal Society has topped Harris Interactive’s 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend® study.*

In 2011, all nonprofits were rated collectively, and Best Friends took Non-profit Brand of the Year honors in a field that included organizations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the United Way, the Humane Society of the United States, Habitat for Humanity, and the Red Cross.

In 2012, Harris created several categories for nonprofits: Animal, Environmental, Health, International, Social Services, Disability, and Youth Interest. Best Friends was top among national animal welfare organizations.

In the for-profit sector, category winners include Apple Computers, Honda Automotive, and Southwest Airlines.

Other category winners in the nonprofit sector include the American Red Cross in Social Services, Stand Up To Cancer in Health, and Wildlife Conservation Society in Environmental.

It’s an honor to share top honors with such prestigious companies and nonprofits. We are obviously delighted by the trust and confidence in Best Friends that this study expresses, but we are even more pleased by the fact that Best Friends’ no-kill message and mission of No More Homeless Pets resonate most with the general public in regard to animal welfare. We believe, and apparently the public agrees, that the ending of the needless killing of homeless pets in America’s shelters is the top priority in animal welfare today.

There are many great causes and challenges that we face as a society. Some are waiting for cures or solutions, some will always be with us, but the needless killing of shelter pets is one that we don’t have to live with.
