Best Friends Animal Society is temporarily suspending the free-roaming outdoor cat sterilization program agreement for the trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) voucher program in Salt Lake City, effective July 1, 2026.

Best Friends Animal Society has made the difficult decision to pause the program until October 1, 2026. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

For decades, Best Friends has been proud to provide support for local Utahns’ TNVR efforts. We are grateful for the dedicated service that community cat caregivers provide to the cats and to their communities, and we are deeply appreciative of the veterinarians who participate in the voucher program by offering charitable rates.

Since October 2025 alone, the voucher program has supported more than 4,000 cats. However, due to more good Samaritans conducting TNVR this year and more veterinary clinics graciously agreeing to participate in the program, the demand for vouchers has outpaced budget capacity for our current fiscal year, necessitating this temporary pause.

In the interim, Best Friends’ spay/neuter clinic in Orem will continue providing $1 services for community cats brought in by qualifying Utah County residents. Additionally, TNVR services will continue at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary clinic for qualifying participants. Resources and information on other clinics offering TNVR services can be accessed here.

Best Friends apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and looks forward to seeing voucher program participants when the program is reinstated on October 1, 2026.
