Take a dog out for an adventure in Los Angeles

If you’re looking for an adventure with a sweet pup by your side, you can sign up to be a part of the fun of our Adventure Buddy program at Best Friends in Los Angeles.

The Adventure Buddy program was designed for those who may be limited on time or space at home but would still like to make an impact by providing enrichment and a much-needed break from the kennel for one of our adoptable dogs.

It's a fun way to spend some time with a pup while giving adoptable dogs some valuable time to explore life outside of their daily routine. The dog will get experience in the "real world" and become even more ready for a new home while you have fun getting to know them. Our Adventure Buddy program is also a great stepping stone to prepare interested foster volunteers in longer-term fostering.

Outings enrich the lives of adoptable dogs

Whatever you decide for your outing — from taking a stroll on a dog-friendly beach to relaxing together at your place — one lucky dog will appreciate spending quality time with you.

During your adventure, you’ll get to do an activity with one of our approved dogs. Together, you can spend some quiet time at home or visit areas that are dog-friendly like trails, parks, open markets, cafes, and dog-friendly beaches.

What to expect

Whether you're looking for some outdoor fun or a cozy day at home, we'll match you with the right dog and their preferred activity level. Activities include spending the afternoon enjoying quiet time together at your place to practice being in a home environment or going for a hike on a dog-friendly trail.

Our team will match you with a dog who most suits your abilities and home environment. We’ll also take into consideration if you have other dogs and can schedule a meet and greet with them to assure they will do well during their adventure together.

Volunteer requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the Adventure Buddy program. If you are under 18, you are welcome to foster alongside a parent or guardian, who will need to complete our foster onboarding process.

We'll make sure to send you with all the supplies your adventure buddy will need to have an amazing time together.

Sign up to become an adventure buddy

Get ready for a fun day with an appreciative pup by your side.

Once you’ve filled out your application, you will receive an automated email with details about Adventure Buddy program opportunities and sign-up instructions. You’ll be asked to complete an online orientation (lasting 15-20 minutes), which includes creating a volunteer profile, watching a video, and digitally signing accompanying forms.

If you’re under the age of 18, you’ll need permission to foster from someone in your household who is over 18 years old. That person should be the one to complete the volunteer profile and orientation. For more information, please contact us directly with any questions at 818-643-3989 or behaviorla@bestfriends.org.
