Improve access to pet-friendly housing in Massachusetts
Massachusetts residents: Ask your state representatives to support and advance House Bill 4835!
For many older adults, a pet isn’t just a companion — it’s their primary source of comfort, routine, and connection. When housing policies force someone to choose between a roof over their head and the animal they love, it can lead to heartbreaking surrenders and unnecessary stress.
Luckily, there's a new state bill that would help remove barriers for families with pets.
Massachusetts House Bill 4835 will help keep pets and families together by standardizing state-aided public housing policies.
The bill plans to reinstate the elderly state-aided housing pet program and expand the current pet program with breed-neutral language. Currently in Massachusetts, the senior citizen community makes up over 65% of residents living in public housing; this bill will greatly benefit their quality of life and smooth the transition process for future tenants.
