Improve disaster-evacuation planning for pets in Alaska

The 2025 Alaska typhoon exposed critical gaps in emergency evacuation options. Alaska legislators are now considering an important bill that would improve evacuation processes for families with pets.

If enacted, Alaska House Bill 335 will include companion animals in statewide evacuation plans, co-sheltering practices, and reunification procedures.

Modeled after established frameworks in Florida, Louisiana, and Washington, HB 335 will strengthen public safety during mandatory evacuations — protecting pets without adding to the state budget.
