Help prevent unnecessary dog deaths in Illinois animal shelters
Illinois residents: Urge your state senator to OPPOSE Senate Bill 2891.
Illinois lawmakers will soon vote on advancing Senate Bill 2891, legislation that currently contains a harmful provision for dogs in Illinois animal shelters.
Unless this provision is removed or amended, SB 2891 could prevent shelters and animal control agencies from adopting out, transferring, or rehoming any dog that has (ever) been designated “dangerous” — a label that's currently defined too broadly.
With no legal option for placement or rehabilitation, more dogs will be killed in Illinois shelters.
Encourage lawmakers to improve this bill! The section prohibiting the placement of dogs deemed “dangerous” can be removed or amended, preserving a shelter's ability to transfer these dogs to qualified rescue groups or sanctuaries when appropriate.
