A better future for Danville's pets starts with leadership

Danville has an opportunity to create an animal shelter the community can be proud of. By embracing collaboration, transparency, and proven solutions, city leaders can help create a brighter future for pets and the people who love them. 

For nearly three years, Best Friends Animal Society has offered to partner with city leaders and the Danville Area Humane Society at no cost, to provide nationally recognized expertise, funding, training, operational support, veterinary resources, and implementation assistance to help save more pets. That offer remains available today. 

We’re encouraged by the Danville Police Department taking positive steps to help reunite more lost pets through upcoming microchip training and a community scanning station. Now is the time to build on that momentum.

Communities across Virginia and the country have transformed their shelters by adopting proven best practices and working collaboratively with partners. Danville deserves the same opportunity. We are asking the Mayor and City Council to demonstrate leadership by encouraging collaboration and supporting a path forward that gives every healthy and treatable pet the best chance to leave the shelter alive. 

TAKE ACTION: Ask the Danville City Council and Mayor to work with Best Friends Animal Society and other experienced partners to strengthen shelter operations, improve transparency, and help save more pets.
