Conga is a shy and undeniably cute cat who prefers to admire the world from a cozy distance peeking around corners or watching quietly with wide, curious eyes. So perhaps you have a job for Conga as a working cat in return for food and a warm place to call home? Their job is to keep warehouses, barns, wineries and more free of rodents and other pests. However, with time and patience she may blossom into a true friend. Once she decides you’re safe, she’ll inch closer, accept your gentle pets, and start to purr like a tiny engine. Conga may be timid at first, but winning her trust is one of the sweetest feelings in the world.

Best Friends is working to end the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters in part by getting more pets out of shelters and into loving homes.

We’ve come a long way since the first known city reached no-kill in 1994, and now we’re closer than ever to making the entire country no-kill. Of the roughly 3,900 shelters operating in America today, 1,300 of them are not yet no-kill, but nearly half are close with 100 or fewer additional pets to be saved, and we know what to do to get them there.
