Lord & Taylor steps up for homeless pets

By Julie Castle

Lord & Taylor, the upscale department store chain with locations concentrated in the East and Midwest, is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society to host local pet adoptions at all 46 of their stores, from Virginia to Massachusetts, and New York to Illinois, this Saturday, June 23, from 1 to 5 p.m. Find a store near you at lordandtaylor.com/eng/storelocator/.

The adoption promotion is being called Perfect Pairs Pet Adoption Day and is being held in conjunction with LT’s biggest sandal sale of the year — get it? (The perfect pairs being you and your new pet and a perfect pair of new sandals!) There will also be a pet photo contest, with the winner receiving a free pair of shoes each month for a year. That’s a lot of shoes for someone’s puppy to chew on!

Lord & Taylor has a strong record of giving back to the community. The stores are really getting into the promotion, especially the general managers who are really jazzed. The GM at one New Jersey store said that he wouldn't be surprised if all of the adoptables went home with his employees — which would be fine by us! Another store manager said that he'd have to put on blinders because he couldn't take home any more animals since he already has a couple of rescued pets.

What’s really cool about the Perfect Pairs Pet Adoption is that every Lord & Taylor store will feature pets for adoption from animal rescue groups that are part of Best Friends Animal Society’s No More Homeless Pets Network. It's part of a national effort to put shelter pets in front of retail shoppers.

The No More Homeless Pets Network is comprised of 501(c)(3) public charity rescue groups, spay/neuter organizations, and shelters actively saving lives and reducing euthanasia rates in their communities. The program is free and offers fundraising opportunities and adoption events, discounts and scholarships to educational conferences, consultations with Best Friends staff, and grants to select organizations that make a significant and measurable impact in their communities.

So, if you are in the Big Apple, you can stop by the LT flagship store on 5th Avenue and meet adorable adoptables from Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF). If Tysons Corner, Virginia, is your stomping grounds, you’ll be able take home a new pet from Homeward Trails. In Rochester, New York, meet new friends from Pitty Love, and in Old Orchard, Illinois, from Magnificent Mutts Rescue.

We are excited by this opportunity to connect our partners with national retail outlets as we continue to push the message of pet adoptions and engage a wider audience in our no-kill mission.

Three cheers for Lord & Taylor! Visit a store near you this Saturday, adopt a pet, buy some sandals, enter a contest, and have some fun doing good for the animals.
