Best Friends in Houston

Working together to
Save Them All

Best Friends in Houston works collaboratively with city shelters, local animal welfare organizations and passionate individuals to save the lives of pets in shelters in Houston and the surrounding areas.

To guide this work and help Houston become a no-kill city for cats and dogs, Best Friends launched the Coalition to Save Houston’s Pets in April of 2018 followed by a Community Cat Program, foster programs for dogs and cats, local adoption programs and an out of state transport program.

Read on to find out more about how you can get involved locally to Save Them All, and click the button to your right if you're looking to take home your new best friend!

Adopting a pet

At this time, all of our animals are currently residing in foster homes. The adoptions process will start remotely through an online meet-and-greet request form and video-conference meet-and-greets.*

To adopt a new pet:

  • Search our available pets
  • Complete the meet-and-greet request specifying the particular pet you are interested in meeting.
  • An adoption counselor will contact you directly to schedule a virtual meet-and-greet. Please note, meet-and-greet requests are reviewed on a first-come-first-served system.
  • Following the virtual meet-and-greet, the adoption can be finalized and arrangements will be made for you to officially pickup your new best friend!

*Our Best Friends Houston Program is 100% foster based, so meet-and-greets will be virtual so the matchmaking can begin before you meet your new Best Friend in person.

Adoption prices:
Adult dogs - $50
Puppies - $100
Adult cats - $25
Kittens - $50

If you adopt a pair of kittens or cats, you only pay one adoption fee!

Interested in learning more about a specific animal or have a general adoption question? Email our adoptions team at houstonadoption@bestfriends.org.
