National Pledge to Support Cats

I pledge to support my community and its cats.

Why sign the pledge?

Cats are a natural part of our communities. As such, stray cat management is critical to keeping our communities safe and healthy. And stray cats are present in communities all across the US, even if we don't see them on a daily basis — statistics from animals shelters show this. The traditional way of managing these cat populations (i.e., catch and kill) is expensive, ineffective, and inhumane.

Together, we can advocate for more effective, animal-friendly, and data-supported solutions. United, as an extensive network of people, businesses, animal welfare organizations, and shelters, we can keep the cats in our communities healthy and safe.

Together we can:

  • Utilize humane population management for stray cats (also known as "community cats"), including trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR). More info here.
  • Provide access to cat resources for our communities and neighbors, including affordable and accessible spay/neuter options.
  • Raise public awareness and support of issues impacting community cats.
  • Build a network within our community that acts as a pillar of support for our neighbors, cats, and pets.

We, the undersigned, hereby commit to ensuring that cat welfare is a priority for our community and that we will support enabling and enacting programs that manage stray cat populations through TNVR. We also commit to ensuring that TNVR programs and community cat resources receive positive attention from all relevant bodies and systems including:

  • Legislators and policymakers;
  • Funding bodies and grant providers;
  • Consumer and advocacy groups;
  • Social care and human service groups;
  • Our own social networks.
