Saving lives in Rockingham County
You can make a difference in the lives of animals in your community.
Last year, hundreds of thousands of loving dogs and cats were killed in shelters like the ones here in Rockingham County, just because they didn’t have a safe place to call home.

But you can change that. Rockingham County Animal Shelter in North Carolina has partnered with Best Friends to create the Rockingham County satellite foster program, which is focused on saving lives by increasing kitten and cat fostering.

You, too, can foster, adopt, volunteer and advocate for the animals. Working together, we'll create better lives for Rockingham County cats and a happier, healthier community for both people and pets.

Adopt to help save lives

When you adopt a cat who’s been patiently waiting for a place to call home, you’re not only saving a life.

You’re making space in the shelter for other homeless cats in Rockingham County and giving them a chance to grow, thrive and find families of their very own. You might not feel like a hero, but to one animal, you’re the entire world.

Adopt a Cat

If you see a dog or cat you’d like to meet, complete the adoption survey, specifying the particular pet you are interested in meeting.

Foster: open your heart and home

When you foster a cat or kitten in Rockingham County, you’re not only providing a safe and loving place for a pet to learn and grow, you’re helping to make room for more animals in the shelter.

Fostering an adoptable animal in your home, even for just a few nights, is a great way to help save a homeless pet’s life. Best Friends is in need of foster homes to temporarily care for cats and kittens while they await transport to an adoptive home.

Providing love and a safe space for them is all that is required. All supplies, including food, and medical care will be provided. You’ll have 24/7 access to support and mentorship while the cat or kitten is in your care.

Have you fostered for Best Friends before? Please fill out the on-deck survey.
