Welcome to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Anyone who visits the Sanctuary will tell you: There’s just something special about this place.

What makes it special? Maybe it’s that, for centuries, this land was considered sacred by those who lived here. Perhaps it’s that Angel Canyon, where up to 1,600 animals call Best Friends Animal Sanctuary a home-between-homes, looks like a piece of paradise. Or maybe it’s that nearly 40 years ago, a group of friends saw its potential — its power to save lives.

Experience the magic of the Sanctuary for yourself by going on a tour. You can take a self-guided tour or schedule a tour at the Best Friends Welcome Center.

How to have the best Sanctuary experience

Your first stop? Visit the welcome center. Shop for some Best Friends gear, get a bite to eat, take some awesome photos and don’t forget to tag us on social (@bestfriendsanimalsociety #bfas). You can also sign up for some other tours.

Don't forget to visit the Best Friends Roadhouse. Located in downtown Kanab, the Roadhouse is an extension of the Sanctuary and offers a wonderful pet-centric lodging experience.

Be aware and stay safe.

The Sanctuary is located in a high desert environment and you might encounter rattlesnakes and other wildlife. Please be alert about your surroundings when hiking.

Dress for the weather. It gets very hot here during the summer months. We recommend hats, sunblock and hiking boots or closed-toe shoes.

Bring a water bottle. The desert environment is very dry, so we recommend carrying a water bottle to stay hydrated. If you happen to forget, bottled water is sold at the welcome center.

About Best Friends

Best Friends Animal Society is working to save the lives of cats and dogs all across the country, giving pets second chances and happy homes. As recently as 2016, nearly 1.5 million cats and dogs were killed in America just because shelters didn't have the community support or the resources needed to save them.

Best Friends is committed to change that by 2025, by operating the nation's largest sanctuary for homeless animals and working with shelters across the country. Together, we can Save Them All.
